Grinder Setting Converter

Found a recipe dialed in for a grinder that isn't yours? Convert its setting to the equivalent on the one you have.

Equivalent setting

This converts the grind you already have. Coffee Master calculates the grind your coffee actually needs.

When to use it

The most common case: you find a recipe dialed in for a grinder that isn't yours (a video, a forum, a friend). Enter its setting, pick your grinder, and get the equivalent so you can start brewing instead of guessing.

It also helps when you switch grinders and don't want to re-dial every recipe from scratch. Or before you buy, to see what setting your usual grind would land on with another grinder. The result is a starting point, not a number set in stone.

A grind number isn't a recipe

This converter keeps the same grind size when you switch grinders. What it can't know is whether that size is the one your coffee wants. The right grind shifts with the process, the roast level, and the days since roast. Coffee Master reads all of that off the label and calculates the grind for that bean, along with the temperature, ratio, pour, and timing.

How accurate is it?

Treat the result as a starting point, not a guarantee. Burrs, alignment, and wear vary from unit to unit, and two grinders rarely grind exactly alike even at the same size. Use the converted setting for your first brew, then adjust a step or two to taste.

Frequently asked questions

Can I convert between a manual and an electric grinder?

Yes. It converts between any two grinders it supports, from a hand grinder to an electric dial and back.

Why is my converted setting outside my grinder's usual range?

The source grind may sit at the edge of what the target grinder can do. If the result stops at the coarsest or finest setting, that grinder can't reach that grind size.

Does the brew method matter?

Not for the conversion itself. It translates one setting to another at the same grind size, whatever you are brewing. Pick your method once you are on the new grinder.

Which grinders are supported?

Every grinder with calibration data in Coffee Master: Comandante, 1Zpresso, Baratza, Fellow, Timemore, and more. The list keeps growing.
